'One person can contest only from one constituency'

By Our Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD, JULY 1. The State Election Commission on Sunday said the Andhra Pradesh Panchayat Raj Act and Rules stipulate that a person can contest from only one territorial constituency of Mandal Parishad or Zilla Parishad, though he can file nominations for more than one territorial constituency.

In a press note issued here on Sunday, the Commission secretary, Mr. D.R.Garg, informed that in cases where a candidate files nominations to more than one territorial constituency, he is required to withdraw all nominations except to any one territorial constituency of his choice before the date and time fixed for allowing withdrawal of nominations. In case he fails to withdraw the nominations filed by him in all but one territorial constituency, he will be disqualified from contesting elections from all the territorial constituencies, he said. The last date for withdrawal is 3 p.m. on July 3.
