First batch of Reva cars roll out

BANGALORE, JULY 1. The Bangalore-based Maini group on Saturday
handed over the first 10 Reva electric cars to customers here.
Reva is one of the first electric cars to go in for mass
production in the world. It is said to be the lowest priced in
the world market at Rs. 2.5 lakhs. Reva has a five-year road tax
exemption.
Prof. C.C.Chan, President of the World Electric Vehicle
Association, said that Reva was priced reasonably compared with
other electric cars. Reva electric car company is a colloboration
between the Maini group and AEVT Inc from California.
The company has its manufacturing facilty in Bangalore and has
the capacity to produce 1,500 cars this year, with expansion
plans to 12,000 cars a year by 2003.
