Govt. urged to encourage 'Green Building' concept
By Our Staff Reporter
HYDERABAD, JULY 1. The Centre for Resource Education (CRE), an
organisation working for a better city, has urged the Government
to promote "Green Building" concept that aims at creating
environmentally sound and resource-efficient buildings by using
an integrated approach to design.
At a press conference here on Sunday, Mr. Narishma Reddy and Mr.
Subba Rao, members of the CRE, and Mr. T. Krishna Murthy,
president, Federation of Colony Welfare Associations, said that
Green Buildings promote resource conservation, including energy
efficiency, renewable energy and water conservation features,
create a healthy and comfortable environment and reduce operation
and maintenance costs.
To achieve this, they said the Government should initiate
measures like coming out with a public policy creating local
incentives and financing green buildings. The concept can be
further strengthened through education and awareness campaigns
among the people and real estate dealers.
They said the present situation in the construction activity was
deplorable with violations everywhere. The unholy nexus between
politicians, bureaucrats and real estate developers had further
degenerated the system, they felt.
To contain corruption and check the violation of rules in
constructions, they sought the involvement of local Resident
Welfare Associations (RWAs) from planning to execution.
