Maligning immigrants

Sir, - I am appalled by the many remarks of C. Rammanohar Reddy (June 24) about the Indian immigrants in North America. The veneer of factual information contained in the article camouflages the deep-rooted anti-Hindu sentiments harboured by the author. He is concerned about the monetary contributions made by some of the Hindu immigrants to cultural and religious organisations, including political groups such as the VHP. How can he be not concerned by the vicious violence perpetrated by the Khalistan movement that has been primarily bankrolled by Indo- Canadians?

Equally despicable is the systematic support rendered by the Indian Muslim organisations of North America to the subversive activities of Pakistan and the Afghan mercenaries in Kashmir. Mr. Reddy also ignores the fund raising activities of Christians in the U.S. and Canada to support charitable missions ostensibly to civilise the `heathens' of India. The average Indian immigrant in North America is a hard-working individual. He or she has to be twice as good to get half as much.

Yet, these individuals not only succeed but often rise to the top, thanks to the Indian psyche and intellect moulded by Hindu cultural traditions. Mr. Reddy's anti-Hindu fervour inhibits him from giving credit where it is due.
