Sweeping changes in PCB's functioning

ISLAMABAD, JULY 2. Pakistan Cricket Board chairman, Lt. Gen.
Tauqir Zia dissolved the advisory council on Sunday and announced
five committees to run the board professionally on the lines of
International Cricket Council.
The chairman has ordered complete reorganisation of the cricket
board and its functioning, said media manager Khalid Butt from
Lahore.
Former Test cricketers Javed Miandad, Ramiz Raja and Waqar Hasan,
along with the manager of the Pakistan team to England, Yawar
Saeed are the members of the advisory council.
The five new committees are - finance and marketing, development,
selection, review and the management committee. All will report
directly to the PCB chairman. Muhammad Naeem, till now PCB's
financial advisor, has been made treasurer to oversee the finance
department.
The finance and marketing committee will be headed by the PCB
chairman and will consist of the PCB director, treasurer,
marketing consultant and legal advisor.
It's task will be to consider and review on a regular basis the
financial results, budget, sponsorship and promotion deals made
to PCB.
The development committee will be headed by Ramiz Raja and will
look after infrastructure development, academies, nurseries,
coaching centres, grass-root level cricket and the national
coaching council, Khalid said.
The management committee which will deal with domestic cricket,
national umpiring council, rules and discipline and will be
headed by Javed Miandad with Iqbal Qasim as its vice-chairman.
The new selection committee will be headed by an honorary
chairman who will be aided by paid selectors whose names will be
announced in due course of time. Till such time, however, the
present committee members will continue to function.
A review committee to consider matters regarding betting,
gambling and match-fixing will be headed by a retired judge of
the high-court (to be named later), the PCB chief investigator
with Israr Ahmad and Asif Shah as the other members.
In addition, the PCB chairman has also formed a committee to be
headed by the legal advisor to review PCB's constitution and
elections of associations so as to be in line with new national
administrative structure.
