Rajiv case: CBI interrogates three Tamils
NEW DELHI, JULY 4. To unravel the conspiracy behind the former
Prime Minister, Rajiv Gandhi's assassination, the Central Bureau
of Investigation has interrogated three Tamil nationals settled
in New Zealand and Australia, who are alleged to be the front men
of the alleged financier of the LTTE, `K. Padmanathan' alias
`KP'. The CBI teams visit was a follow-up to the letters rogatory
sent to 23 countries seeking details about LTTE members suspected
to be linked with the assassination.
The CBI team questioned the three Tamil nationals after securing
requisite permission from the authorities in those countries, the
sources said. However, the sources refused to divulge their
findings and said ``this could hamper agency's hunt for Mr.
Padmanathan.`` Meanwhile, Swedish authorities, who had been sent
a request for questioning of Mr. Padamanathan, have told the CBI
that he had fled the country and his whereabouts were not known.
The agency had sent letters rogatory to Sweden where the LTTE
chief, Mr. Prabhakaran's close confidant `KP' was believed to be
hiding.
Asked whether the CBI had sought help of the Swedish authorities
or other countries for arresting the suspects, the sources said,
``we have sent our findings during the investigations to them and
have asked them to further probe the matter.''
