By Our Special Correspondent
BANGALORE, JULY 5. The Cabinet on Thursday decided to extend
concessions regarding stamp duty and entry exemption for a Rs.
3,140-crore ambitious project by M/s Khoday Group which would set
up two LNG import and degassification terminals in the State.
The Khoday Group has proposed to set up the terminals at Gokak in
Belgaum District and Gokarna in Uttara Kannada.
The Minister of State for Information and Publicity, Prof. B. K.
Chandrashekar, told presspersons here that the project was the
first of its kind in the State and the Khoday Group would conduct
a techno-feasibility study of the project involving laying of
supply pipelines.
The company had sought concessions in stamp duty, registration
charges and entry tax exemption, he said and added that the
Government decided to extend some concessions.
Prof. Chandrashekar said that the Cabinet also cleared a proposal
to bring an amendment to the Karnataka Electricity Act, 2001
enhancing the quantum of fine and punishment for power theft.
He said the proposed amendment would provide both fine and
imprisonment replacing the earlier provision of either fine or
punishment. A provision for imprisonment up to five years and a
minimum of three years along with fine ranging from Rs. 5,000 to
Rs. 50,000 would be incorporated.
`BDA within rules'
The Chief Minister, Mr. S. M. Krishna, has made it clear that the
Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) was well within its powers
to take action against unauthorised structures. The matter came
up at the meeting following a remark made by the Bangalore Mayor,
Ms. Prema Cariappa, who said that compensation be given to those
whose buildings were demolished by the BDA.
