Trust to help poor patients

By Our Special Correspondent

BANGALORE, JULY 5. The Surakshaa Trust comprising five dedicated trustees from various walks of life, has decided to extend financial support to poor patients who require critical medical attention, with the support of philanthropists and generous people in the corporate sector.

The trustees -- Mr. Ajay Malik, Mr. Bhaskar, Mr. Jugnu Uberoi, Mr. Shashidhar Patil and Mr. Vinay Bajaj -- told presspersons here today that the trust, which had so far helped 125 poor patients in two years, would be holding a corporate golf tournament in Bangalore on July 27 and 28. Three golfers would represent a corporate entity from across the country, and the entry fee raised from each team would constitute the funds that would be available to the Surakshaa Trust to provide assistance to poor patients.

The trust had plans to tie-up with pharmaceutical companies and obtain vital medicines for free distribution to poor patients. Apart from surgery and hospital care, most poor patients were hit hard for funds to purchase medicines in the aftermath of an operation.

The trust had helped the poor in undergoing cardiac by-pass surgery, open heart surgery, renal transplants, dialysis etc. The focus of the trust was, however, on providing emergency medical assistance to the poor, he added.
