Importance of customer service highlighted

By Our Staff Reporter

CHENNAI, JULY 8. A training programme for front-office staffers of 28 Indane cooking gas showrooms was conducted in the city today, highlighting the importance of customer service.

The participants in the programme, drawn from distributor showrooms at Manali, Tiruvottiyur, Washermanpet, Royapuram, Tondiarpet, Korukkupet, Perambur and Villivakkam, were informed of the competitive scenario that would unfold after the dismantling of the administered pricing mechanism (APM) on the petroleum products since April 2002.

The staffers, at the programme jointly organised by the distributors and the Indane Area office, were told to ``adopt a courteous approach'' with the customers as it was the prerequisite to retain them in a competitive scenario and spread the message of safety and oil conservation.

They were also advised to suggest measures to improve the service and increase the customer-base. Already, as part of the efforts, a few distributors have provided cellular phones to their mechanics for responding immediately to customer complaints, especially those related to leakage of cooking gas.

Saying that the programme was first of its kind at Indane, Mr. K. Kanagaraj, assistant manager (sales) at the Area Office, pointed out that a programme on meditation and spiritualism for several distributors was also organised recently.

The chief LPG manager, Mr. P.K. Kutty, the area manager, Mr. A. Eswaran, deputy manager (sales), Mr. C.S.S. Shastri, vice- president of LPG Distributors Federation, Mr. A. Prabhakar, and former president of the Federation, Mr. L. Munivelu, spoke.
