Water, water
ENTER, BUSINESS houses to help our water-starved Chennai.
Tankers are hired to supply water to areas decided by the
companies. And according to these organisations, residents flock
to the free supply even where Metrowater tankers operate on a
daily basis.
A spokesman of P.ORR and Sons said, ``We receive good response
from residents wherever we go.'' The company has been
distributing 12,000 litres of water a day through tankers in
different parts of the City over the last 15 days, he said. He
added that other charitable organisations or individuals could
take up the cause as it cost only Rs. 1,200 per tanker for 12,000
litres. The company will continue the service for another two
months till the monsoons arrive, he said.
Sarvana Bhavan has also been employing a tanker to supply water
in MGR Nagar, which has found tremendous response. The service
was discontinued during the political turmoil last week, but
would be resumed soon, an employee of the hotel said.
