Karnataka 'Palace-On-Wheels' likely to be launched next year

BANGALORE, JULY 8. Come October 2 next year, Bangalore will be the destination for the Tourism Department's Karnataka ``Palace- On-Wheels''.

The new initiative will tentatively, be launched on that date. This was decided at a ``high-level'' meeting that the Tourism Department had here with Union Government officials.

According to official communication from the Minister for Tourism, Mr. R.Roshan Baig, ``it has been tentatively decided to cover major tourist destinations, including Mysore, Srirangapatna, Belur, Halebidu, Hampi, Badami, Aihole, Pattadakal, Castlerock and Dandeli, in a round trip from Bangalore to Bangalore.''

The Karnataka ``Palace on Wheels'' is priced at between $ 150-$ 200 per day per person and is spread over six nights and seven days.

The official release said a task force has been constituted comprising the following posts: Executive Director (Tourism) Railway Board; Chief Commercial Manageer (Southern Railways); Chief Commercial Manager (South Central Railways); Director (Tourism) Department of Tourism, Government of India; Principal Secretary (ITYS), Government of Karnataka -- Member Secretary.

As per the Tourism Department, the tour route will be spread over seven days as follows:

Day one: Bangalore-Mysore -- Places visited: Ranganathittu, Srirangapatna, Somanathapura, Shivana Samudra, back to Mysore.

Day two: Mysore-Mysore -- Places visited: Palace, Art Gallery, University Folk Museum, Brindavan Garden.

Day three: Mysore-Hassan -- Places visited: Shravanabelagola, Belur, Halebidu, back to Hassan.

Day four: Hassan-Alnavar -- Places visited: Dandeli

Day five: Alnavar-Gadag -- Places visited: Badami, Pattadakal, Aihole, Hospet.

Day six: Hospet -- Place: Hampi.

Day seven: Bangalore -- Place: Bannerghatta National Park, local sight seeing.
