Wedding bells for odd couple
By Our Staff Reporter
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, JULY 8. The wedding bells which tolled at the
Lourde Church near the PMG junction, Palayam today marked the
beginning of an unusual relationship when Mr.Francis Antony (72)
got married to Ms.Elizabeth (62). The odd couple had chosen to
tie the knot in the evening of their lives, to avoid the solitude
imposed by circumstances.
A widower, Mr.Antony retired as manager of the State Bank of
India, Ernakulam. He had three children from his earlier
marriage, all of whom are married and settled elsewhere.
Ms.Elizabeth also a widow, is a retired teacher living alone.
Interestingly, the initiative for the late marriage came from
Ms.Elizabeth who posted an advertisement on the Internet for a
partner below the age of 75 without other liabilities. She picked
Mr.Antony from the 74 responses she received from all over the
world because he was the only one who did not mind getting
married in public. Notwithstanding protest from relatives,
Ms.Elizabeth was particular about tying the knot with the world
witnessing the event.
