Mahesh-Elena pair bows out
LONDON, JULY 8. India's Mahesh Bhupathi and Elena Likhovtseva of
Russia were beaten comprehensively by Mike Bryan of United States
and Liezel Huber of South Africa in the mixed doubles semifinals
in the Wimbledon championships here on Sunday.
The Indo-Russian pair went down 2-6, 2-6 after resuming the match
on Sunday, down 1-2 in the first set.
Bhupathi and Likhovtseva had beaten Mike's twin brother Bob Bryan
and Lisa McShea in a dramatic quarterfinal but it turned out to
be a case of If-Bob-doesn't-get-you, Mike-will!
Likhovtseva's serve was the weak link in the first set and early
in the second before Bhupathi himself lost serve in the long
fifth game of the second set. He and Likhovtseva fought off five
breakpoints but succumbed on the sixth.
Then Likhovtseva fended off three matchpoints to hold to 2-5
before Huber served out the match in the next game.
