Bonalu festival at Secunderabad concludes
By Our Staff Reporter
HYDERABAD, JULY 9 The week-long `bonalu' organised as part of the
Ashada Jatara at the Sri Ujjaini Mahakali Temple, General Bazar,
Secunderabad, concluded on Monday, with the `rangam' predictions
by Ms. Swaroopa Rani and the procession of the presiding deity
atop a caprisoned elephant.
During the rangam, Ms. Rani forecast good rain. The people in
general would enjoy happy and prosperous time during the year.
The festival would enjoy larger patronage of the devotees in the
years to come, she professed.
Ms. Lakshmi, Assistant Commissioner and Executive Officer of the
temple, said although the two main events slated for the day were
completed ahead of schedule (before noon), devotees continued to
throng the temple later. More people were expected on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, residents of the Old City got into the `bonalu'
celebrations mood by actively participating in Navaratri poojas,
literary and cultural events. `Potarajus' regaled the crowds at
various temples with their frenzied antics.
