Sri Lanka includes five fast bowlers

COLOMBO, JULY 9. Sri Lanka on Monday named five fast bowlers in its squad for the forthcoming triangular one-day series against India and New Zealand while including just two spinners.

The squad is in keeping with coach Dave Whatmore's belief that quality fast bowlers need to be prepared for the 2003 World Cup in South Africa.

Along with pacemen Chamida Vaas, Nuwan Zoysa and Dilhara Fernando, the selectors picked up Suresh Perera and Dulip Liyanage in the 15-member squad for the tournament starting on July 18.

Batsmen Avishka Gunawardene and Chamara Silva have also been recalled to the side which puts tremendous pressure on out-of- form Kumara Sangakkara to retain his place in the final eleven. The selectors dropped four players - Akalanka Ganegama, Thilan Samaraweera, Tilakaratne Dilshan and Indika De Saram - who were part of the team that won the Ary Gold Cup in Sharjah in April.

The team: Sanath Jayasuriya (Captain), Marvan Atapattu, Romesh Kaluwitharana, Russel Arnold, Mahela Jayawardene, Kumara Sangakkara, Avishka Gunawardene, Chamara Silva, Chaminda Vaas, Dulip Liyanage, Suresh Perera, Nuwan Zoysa, Kumar Dharmasena, Muttiah Muralitharan and Dilhara Fernando.
