BANGALORE, JULY 11. A new Cartoon Animation Training School (ANTS) has been launched to fine "toon" the skills of upcoming young artists.

ANTS is a project undertaken by Acropetal Animedia, and the school will offer three-month and six-month certificate courses for ``those with a flair for drawing or aptitude/skill in the fine arts...'', the parent company Managing Director, Mr. N.K. Narasimhan, told presspersons here on Wednesday..

ANTS would be housed at Acropetal Animedia's premises at 28, Ist Main Road, BTM 2nd stage on Bannerghatta Road. According to Mr Narasimhan, the three-month course would cost Rs. 27,000, while the fees for the six-month course would be Rs. 54,000.

``The advantage here is that students will have first-hand experience of the animation process at our own production house.'' Besides, the sector was one that promised to generate employment, he stressed.

As per figures made available by Acropetal Animation, global industry giants showed a trend toward Indian animation studios for outsourcing their production work. ``NASSCOM projects that Indian exports in the animation sector will reach $ 400 million this financial year. India is likely to do more than $ 3 billion worth of animation business in the next three years,'' the company said.

Mr. Narasimhan said job recruitment was on the increase in the animation industry. ``At present, we have 13 members, we plan to increase that to 400 shortly''. He pointed out that a average of 30 to 32 people worked for a month to produce a half-hour animation show. ``When it comes to bigger films, the work goes on for six to eight months,'' he said.

An official release said that the Acropetal Animation team, formerly known as Jang Productions, was started in 1991. The company had to its credit, television commercials for clients such as Brooke Bond, Kiwi shoe polish, Parry's Lacto King and Henko.
