Unbeaten 259 by Gayle
HARARE, JULY 11. A career-best 259 not out (297b, 40x4) by opener
Chris Gayle gave the West Indies total control after day two of
the three-day match against a Zimbabwe Cricket Union President's
XI on Tuesday. After the President's XI declared its first
innings at 128 for nine early in the day for a deficit of 63,
West Indies amassed 457 for five to lead by 520. Gayle shared a
partnership of 144 for the third wicket with Shivnarine
Chanderpaul, the pair scoring at more than a run a ball.
Chanderpaul fell leg before to Paul Strang for 52, including
eight boundaries. Ramnaresh Sarwan scored 76 from 119 balls and
hit 13 boundaries in a 146-run stand for the fifth wicket. His
innings included five 4s in a row in the first over with the
second new ball bowled by David Mutendera.
The scores: West indies 191 and 457 for five (L. Garrick 28, C.
Gayle 259 batting, S. Chanderpaul 52, R. Sarwan 76) vs ZCU
President's XI 128 for nine decl. (H. Masakadza 35, King three
for 2, Ramnarine three for 28).
