Two held for Charar-e-Sharief blast
By Shujaat Bukhari
SRINAGAR, JULY 12. The Badgam police today claimed to have solved
the grenade blast case at the Charar-e-Sharief shrine where six
women devotees were killed and 40 injured on June 8.
Giving the details, the DIG Kashmir range, Mr. K. Rajindra, said
that the Badgam district police had arrested two persons,
Shahnawaz Hussain Baba alias Naaz Mukar, and Shahnawaz Ahmed Dar
alias Nana Duba. Both the accused, he said, had targeted the
Station House Officer, Charar-e-Sharief, and his party who were
on duty there on that day.
The DIG said they concealed the grenade in a black polythene bag
and hurled it when the Friday prayer was about to start. After
the blast, they took away a bullet-proof jacket from the vehicle
belonging to the Rajpora police station in which an official had
come to pay obeisance at the shrine, thus giving an impression to
the devotees and others that police was responsible for throwing
the grenade.
The accused, Mr. Rajindra said, had links with banned
organisations. One of them had received Rs. 500 for throwing the
grenade. More arrests were likely.
