Assembly session from July 16

BANGALORE, JULY 12. The sessions of both the Houses of the State Legislature, which were adjourned sine die on March 31, will start on July 16. The Houses will sit for 12 days tentatively till July 31 to transact official and non-official business. The session may be extended based on the recommendation of the Business Advisory Committee.

In the Legislative Council, five nominated members will take oath on the first day. They are: Mr. Prabhakar Kore, Dr. Hanumantaiah, Mr. B. A. Hasanabba, Ms. Umashri and Mr. M. D. Ramesh Raju.

The Council Secretary, Mr. H. C. Rudrappa, told presspersons here on Thursday that the party position in the Council was: the Congress - 26, the Janata Dal (S) -14, the BJP -14, the Janata Dal(U) - 8, the Janata Dal - 5, Independents - 2 and vacant - 6. Mr. Rudrappa said 15 subject committees would submit their recommendations during the session.

The Legislative Assembly Secretary, Mr. Yakub Shariff, told presspersons that demands for grants would be taken up and the Budget for 2001-2002 would be approved.

Besides, six Bills, including the Karnataka State Universities Bill, 2000 (L.A.Bill No 37 of 2000, referred to Joint Select Committee) are pending for consideration by the House.

The other Bills are: The Karnataka Municipal Corporations (Amendment) Bill, 2000, the Karnataka Municipalities (Amendment) Bill, 2000, the Karnataka Co-operative Societies (Second Amendment) Bill, 2000, the Karnataka Panchayat Raj (Third Amendment) Bill, 2000 and the Karnataka Khadi and Village Industries (Amendment) Bill, 2000.
