Plus Two: Govt. ready for review

By Our Staff Reporter

KOCHI, JULY 12. A Division Bench of the Kerala High Court was informed orally by the Additional Advocate General that the Government was willing to review last year's order granting Plus Two courses in 300-odd schools for the academic year 2000-01, subject to any directives to be issued by the Bench. The Bench comprising Mr. Justice K.S. Radhakrishnan and Mr. Justice G. Sasidharan had yesterday sought the opinion of the State Government on the issue of reviewing the order.

When the Plus Two cases came up before the Bench today, counsel for the schools which had been refused Plus Two courses submitted that review should not be restricted to the 300-odd schools which had been granted Plus Two courses. Instead, a review of the 1,400-odd applications received by the Government for sanctioning Plus Two courses could be made. The court then wanted to know whether the review could be confined to the granting of Plus Two courses in schools which had been disputed before the court. The Additional Advocate General agreed to the suggestion.

As for the 600-odd additional batches whose sanction had been quashed by a single judge, the court directed the Additional Advocate General to state what mechanism the Government proposed to evolve for re-examining the cases of these additional batches.

The cases have been posted for Monday.
