Rights panel to probe Stalin's complaint of police excesses
By Our Special Correspondent
CHENNAI, JULY 12. The State Human Rights Commission chairman, Mr.
Justice Nainar Sundaram, today directed the `full Bench' of the
Commission to probe the Chennai Mayor, Mr. M. K. Stalin's
complaint of police excesses at his residence in the wee hours of
June 30.
According to Mr. Justice Nainar Sundaram, the full Bench
comprising Justices Mr. K. Swamidurai, Mr. Sambandam and Dr.
Susheela Raj, would begin the inquiry into the complaint soon.
And notices would be issued to the respondents cited in the
complaint including the DGP, Mr. A. Ravindranath and the Home
Secretary, Mr. Naresh Gupta.
In his complaint to the Commission yesterday, Mr. Stalin charged
that the police officers had acted in a
high-handed manner in his house at suburban Velacherry and ``ill-
treated his family members to win the sweet will and pleasure of
the Chief Minister, Ms. Jayalalithaa''. He urged the Commission
to initiate action against the `guilty' police officers.
