KFPA drive against 'obscene' films
By Our Staff Reporter
BANGALORE, JULY 12. The Kannada Film Producers' Association
(KFPA) has decided to launch a nationwide campaign against the
increasing number of "obscene and sex-oriented" films in all
Indian languages and English from November 31, in co-ordination
with film producers throughout the country.
Mr. Basant Kumar Patil, KFPA President, told presspersons here on
Thursday that KFPA planned a nationwide campaign since obscene
films were not limited to Kannada cinema. The KFPA had
unanimously decided to check the growth of such films which had
even been submitted for consideration for State awards, he said.
The association had chalked out a detailed plan and was hopeful
of getting support from the public and the film producers. As the
first step, it would request film laboratories in the country not
to process such films. It would also ask printers not to print
obscene posters. The KFPA would boycott film processing
laboratories and printing establishments which did not co-operate
and would even initiate legal action against them, he said.
Referring to the increasing number of obscene films in Kannada in
the recent past, he said the KFPA would request the makers of
such films to stop doing so in the larger interests of society.
Asked about the role of the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce
which represented all sections of the film industry, including
exhibitors and distributors, in the campaign, Mr. Patil failed to
give a convincing reply.
On the question of government subsidy for films, he said all the
144 members of KFPA wanted the subsidy to continue, and no one
had made any adverse comments on the issue or on the statement
made by the minister concerned.
Mr. S.V. Rajendra Singh, Mr. P. Krishnaraj, Mr. S.A. Govindaraj
and Mr. Joe Simon of the KFPA were present.
