Blot on IPS
Sir, - Recently on a trip to Hyderabad, I had the opportunity to
visit the National Police Academy. The Academy has developed
tremendously during the last five years thanks to the able
leadership provided by the former Director, Mr. Rajagopal. One of
the new developments was the conversion of an entire building
into a large photo gallery which affords any casual visitor a
peep into the glorious and proud legacy of the Indian Police
Service.
But, the Indian Police Service today has been reduced to a group
of meek and spineless officers. The incidents which occurred on
that fateful night culminating in the arrest of the former Tamil
Nadu Chief Minister, Mr. M. Karunanidhi will remain recorded in
history as one of the darkest chapters of the IPS. The police
leadership in our country has been utilised by the wily and self-
serving political leaders at both the Centre and the State to
settle their personal scores and there is not even one police
officer who would dare to speak out his mind.
V.Narayanswami,
Bangalore
