Pillay ruled out for Azlan Shah trophy

NEW DELHI, JULY 13. Former India captain Dhanraj Pillay will not be included in the team for the Azlan Shah hockey tournament to be played in Malaysia from August 2.

Pillay, who led India to a title win in the Bangkok Asian Games, was not considered for the team for the World Cup qualifier to be played in Edinburgh later this month. The versatile striker was, however, picked up for the coaching camp in preparation for the Azlan Shah tourney. The mercurial forward refused to attend the camp at Jammu fearing threat to his life. Reacting to Pillay's refusal to attend the camp Indian Hockey Federation (IHF) president K.P.S. Gill said that the player will not be considered for the Sultan Azlan Shah tourney.
