The week ahead

MARS, the planet of raw energy, ambition and aggression, turns direct in Sagittarius at 22.50 GMT on July 19. Mars has been travelling in retrograde motion since May 11.

Mars has been in the sign of Sagittarius for its entire retrograde, which means that its voyage has brought to the surface issues of spirituality, religion, belief systems, honesty, freedom and self-expression.

You may experience breakthroughs in any of these areas in the coming week as the reversal in the retrograde energy of Mars helps to manifest what has been held under the surface in any of the subjects commonly associated with Sagittarius.

Queries Answered

On 15.4.2001, Astro Focus said Saturn was to move to Gemini on 21.4.2001; how do most calendars show Saturn in Taurus throughout this year?

C. V. Ponnappan, Bangalore-34.

TWO systems, Sayana and Nirayana, are followed in considering planetary transits. Western astrologers, and some in India, follow Sayana; the rest go by Nirayana. The difference is based on Ayanamsa. (There are Chaithra Paksha Ayanamsa, Raivatha Paksha Ayanamsa, and some others too).

On 21.4.2001, Saturn's Nirayana position was 360 08. Adding Chaithra Paksha Ayanamsa of 230 52 11, the position will be modified to 600 00 11". This will put Saturn in the domain of Mithuna (Gemini) as per Sayana.

By the Nirayana approach, Saturn enters Gemini on 22.7.2002. This date may vary. Sayana transit of Saturn to Gemini on 21.4.2001 must be read in conjunction with Western Sun Signforecasts.
