Panun Kashmir wants PM to come clean on summit

By Our Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI, JULY 18. Terming the summit a ``technical failure'', Panun Kashmir, an organisation of Kashmiri Pandits, today asked the Prime Minister, Mr. Atal Behari Vajpayee, to come clean by addressing the nation through the national media.

``Mr. Vajpayee, who is seen as the architect of the summit, should tell the nation what was discussed in the talks to build up confidence among the citizens,'' Dr. Agnishekhar, the organisation's convener, said. ``The Government should tell the disheartened citizens what transpired at the summit, and what its future moves would be.''

Taking a strong view of the 30-minute meeting between the All- Party Hurriyat Conference (APHC) and the Pakistan President, Gen. Pervez Musharraf, he demanded that the Centre hold an inquiry to ascertain what ``conspired'' between the two.

``We denounce the theory that the APHC represents the Kashmiris. The APHC in no way reflects the aspirations of the Pandits, who form an integral part of Jammu and Kashmir's social milieu,'' he said. The Government should not give importance to the APHC, which was indulging in anti-national activities.

Panun Kashmir, which held its national executive council meeting here today, reiterated its demand for the ``quadrification'' of the State. ``We favour the division of Jammu and Kashmir into four separate geographical identities - Jammu and Kashmir as two separate States and the grant of Union Territory status to Ladakh and the trans-Jhelum area (for Kashmiri Pandits),'' Dr. Agnishekhar said.

Stating that re-organisation of the State would provide a permanent solution to all problems, he said the majority voice there was pro-India and it should be heard more.
