Corpn. counselling for teachers seeking transfers

By Our Staff Reporter

CHENNAI, JULY 18. Following the example set by the State Government, the Chennai Corporation has decided to embark on the exercise of ``counselling'' for school teachers seeking transfers.

The move does not have the approval of the council. Though the council is to be convened shortly, the Commissioner apparently went ahead with the major shake up. Officials described this as an administrative decision for which the Commissioner does not need the approval of the council.

A press release said the Corporation had decided to adopt the guidelines set by the Government in the counselling. When asked if this meant that the GO was adopted by any of the democratic bodies, officials explained that this was not needed. The Commissioner himself could sidestep the council and the standing committees and declare the GO as adopted.

According to this, the process of transfers will be gone through on July 21. For those wishing to shift from this district to another, the counselling process will be held on July 28. The counselling process will be held at the Corporation Higher Secondary school for girls, Rotler Street.
