Chit fund proprietor attempts to commit suicide

CHENNAI, JULY 18. The proprietor of a chit fund company in Seven
Wells area, which owed more than Rs.3 crores to depositors
attempted to commit suicide and was admitted to a private
hospital here.
The police said, they received complaints from several residents
in the area that Ms.Sulochana residing at Paramananda Mudali
Street, who was running the company was not able to repay the
amount to its depositors. Following this a complaint was lodged
with the City Central Crime Branch police.
Sulochana was absconding for sometime and she tried to commit
suicide at Tirupati and was shifted to a private hospital in the
city.
In another case in Tirumangalam area, Mr.Selvam working in the
Metropolitan Transport Corporation who is managing a chit fund
company, has written to the depositors stating that he had opted
for voluntary retirement and would repay the deposits as soon as
he gets the retirement benefits.
