3 out of 50 cusecs Krishna water reach zero point
By Our Staff Reporter
CHENNAI, JULY 18. Krishna water from Kandaleru reservoir in
Andhra Pradesh reached zero point at 5 p.m. today, but there was
little to cheer: only 3 of the 50 cusecs released reached the
zero point.
Though the Metrowater had made arrangements to pump water into
tankers at the zero point this process will have to wait at least
for a day so that ``some more quantum'' builds up.
One of the reasons being pointed out for the delayed arrival of
water is the local body elections in Andhra Pradesh. It is said
there was ``quite a bit of tapping'' along the length of the
canal from Kandaleru, but the authorities did not take any
action.
Though officials here were aware of the tapping, they decided not
to make it an issue as the water position in the city seemed
comfortable ``for about a week'' following the recent rains.
Officials now say that water will be transported through tankers
from zero point on Friday and supplied after purification.
Meanwhile, the other arrangements-bringing water from Neyveli,
Mettur and Erode-will continue.
