Tendulkar out of the entire tri-series

MUMBAI, JULY 18. Sachin Tendulkar's travel plans for the final league match of the Coca Cola tri-series in Sri Lanka has been effectively put off indefinitely because bone scans on Tuesday and Wednesday revealed a hairline fracture in the joint between the two sesamoid bones of the great toe of his right foot.

``I am virtually out of the tri-series,'' said a disappointed Tendulkar at his new residence in Bandra West.

Tendulkar said he has been advised rest for two to three weeks which means only a positive progress report in the next fortnight will give an encouraging news of his joining the team before the first Test in Galle starting on August 14. ``I can do anything, except run. As a cricketer I like to get back on the field. Earlier the better.''

The first x-ray and expert opinion in Zimbabwe did not reveal a fracture. ``This was immediately after the match against the West Indies (on July 4). I scored a century in that match. I carried on with pain and decided to go for diagnosis only after I returned home and after I met Dr. Anant Joshi. I'm very disappointed. All I can do is recover fast through rest and ice treatment. And pray for the success of the Indian team. I have not been able to reach the BCCI officials and the team management in Sri Lanka. I will inform the results of the scans to Andrew Leipus and John Wright,'' said Tendulkar.
