Nirupama bows out of singles
NEW DELHI, JULY 18. Nirupama Vaidyanathan lost 3-6, 2-6 to Sarah
Taylor of the US in the pre-quarterfinals of the $50,000 ITF
women's circuit tennis tournament in Mahwah, US.
The 155th-ranked Nirupama had beaten Lisa McShea of Australia 6-
0, 7-5 in the first round. The effort fetched her $800 and seven
WTA points, including two quality points.
In doubles, Nirupama in partnership with Renata Kolbovic of
Canada made it to the quarterfinals with a 6-3, 2-6, 6-2 victory
over Zuzana Lesenarova of the Czech Republic and Nicole Melch of
Austria.
The third-seeded Indo-Canadian combination will take on Jean
Okada of Japan and Ryoko Takemura of Japan in the second round.
