Craft on wood
KHADI Gramodyog Bhavan's frequently held craft exhibitions have
become a popular part of the city's craft scenario. Yet every
exhibition has something distinctive to offer, a different theme
in craft product which sets it apart.
The All- India Handicrafts exhibition currently on at Khadi
Gramodyog Bhavan, 844, Anna Salai, presents miniature craft
products in various craft skills.
Tiny sheesham wood tables with inlay work and lovely little jewel
boxes shaped like dowry boxes and chests catch the eye at the
exhibition. The decorative boxes which have a touch of pretty
brass inlay work are beautifully crafted, finished and polished.
The boxes come in various interesting shapes from geometric to
rectangular. Also available in sheesham wood are intriguing leaf
shaped trays, picture frames, etc.
Kashmir's walnut wood boxes, trays, bowls, pencil cases and small
side tables are also being showcased at the fair.
Also seen are Kerala's rubber wood furniture items, such as
corner tables and telephone stands, a comparatively new entry in
the craft scenario.
Etched leather handbags and purses from Santiniketan with their
distinctive colours and motifs are some other gift items
available at Khadi Gramodyog along with very reasonably priced
precious gems jewellery, temple jewellery sets in silver
featuring ordinary stones etc and carved corals, rubies, jade,
serpentine stone and so on. The exhibition ends on July 31.
