Blasts rock Jakarta
JAKARTA, JULY 22. Two churches were hit by bomb blasts in the
Indonesian capital today, witnesses said. At least 59 persons
were injured. Police blamed unidentified forces wanting to
disrupt the impeachment proceedings launched on Saturday against
the President, Mr. Abdurrahman Wahid.
One blast tore through the Roman Catholic Santa Anna Church as
Mass was being celebrated before a congregation of about 800. At
least 14 persons were hospitalised, church officials said.
Minutes later, a second bomb went off in an empty mini bus parked
outside a Protestant church, about three km away. However, there
were no injuries.
