PM condoles death of Sivaji

NEW DELHI, JULY 22. The Prime Minister, Mr. Atal Behari Vajpayee, has condoled the death Mr. `Sivaji' Ganesan. In a condolence messsage, Mr. Vajpayee said the septuagenarian doyen of Tamil films was an actor par excellence. His emotive appeal and expressive visage transcended the barriers of language.

A winner of the Dada Saheb Phalke award and with several other laurels to his credit, Mr. Ganesan had become a legend in his lifetime, Mr. Vajpayee said.

The Information and Broadcasting Minister, Ms. Sushma Swaraj, said his performances would continue to inspire young actors for a long time to come. ``The legendary actor was among the all-time greats whose contribution to the art of cinema was duly recognised by the nation by conferring on him the highest honour of the Dada Saheb Phalke award.''

The Kerala Chief Minister, Mr. A.K. Antony, and his Andhra Pradesh counterpart, Mr. N. Chandrababu Naidu, have also condoled the death of Mr. Ganesan.
