Three teams to probe jeweller's murder

By Our Staff Reporter

BANGALORE, JULY 22. The City Police have constituted three special teams to probe the murder of Sumeerchand Surana, a jeweller who was shot dead in Frazer Town Police limits on Saturday night.

The Deputy Commissioner of Police (East), Mr. Jayaprakash V.Naik told The Hindu that police were yet to make a breakthrough and investigations were on.

The bullets and shells recovered from the spot were being matched with those found from similar scenes of crime in Bangalore and elsewhere, he noted.

Mr. Naik said that it was premature to conclude whether the culprits, who gunned down the 45-year-old jeweller and took away the gold ornaments, were locals or from other States.

As police have not yet interrogated the family members of Surana, who are still in a state of shock, it was not possible to estimate the exact value of stolen jewellery which may run into lakhs.

According to Mr. Naik, the culprits had opened fire at Surana with a double barrel gun. Though a double barrel gun is normally a long gun, the one which was used by the culprits was a smaller one which is commonly used by anti-social elements in Bihar.
