Merit awards to Inter rankers presented
By Our Staff Reporter
HYDERABAD, JULY 22.
Is there a formula for passing the examinations with flying
colours? Yes. Discipline, perseverance and hard work. This sure
shot recipe comes from none other than the IIT guru, Dr. C.
Ramaiah, himself.
There is a new found eagerness among the students these days to
excel and do one better. That's what makes them slog for long
hours and rise as early as 4 a.m and it augured well, said
Dr.Ramaiah while participating in the merit scholar award
function organised by the Tirumala Music Centre (TMC) here on
Sunday.
Dr. Ramaiah recalled how some 40 years ago getting average marks
was considered sterling performance and a seat in Engineering was
ensured. Today a student needed to score 98 per cent marks in
Intermediate second year to qualify for admission to BITS,
PIlani. The best student of today was far superior than the best
student of previous generation. On the contrary the average
student of present day was far worse than his counterpart of
yesteryear.
Dr. Ramaiah expressed happiness at the strides being made by the
State in the field of education. It was a matter of pride that
students of Andhra Pradesh were doing excellently and occupied
top positions everywhere.
Dr. I.V. Subba Rao, secretary, Education, said it was important
that average students, teachers and schools performed well. The
Government was taking many steps to improve the general level of
performance.
The film artiste, Mr. Akkineni Nageswara Rao, gave away merit
awards to 11 top rankers of Intermediate. The first prize went to
M. Keerthi Kumar who scored 974 marks out of 1000 in Intermediate
second year. The second and third prizes were won by J.T.
Priyanka and P.V. Praneeth who obtained 972 marks each. All the
three were given gold medals. The other students who scored marks
ranging from 967 to 970 were also honoured.
Mr. Nageswara Rao also drew lots for the "Honeymoon holiday
offer" for newly-married couples. Earlier, Mr. N. Amarnath,
executive director, and Mr. N. Chandrashekar, managing director,
TMC, spoke.
