Pondy Govt. staff to join strike

By Our Staff Reporter

PONDICHERRY, JULY 22. Mr. C. H. Balamohanan and Mr. K. Jayaraman of the Confederation of the Government Employees Association and Mr. P. Latchoumanaswamy and Mr. T. R. Seshachalam of the Central Federation of the Employees said here today that more than 38,000 employees in the Union Territory would observe a strike on July 25.

They said in a joint press conference that the strike was in response to the call given by the employees federations in New Delhi. The strike, which would attract a cut in a day's salary, was to protest the `unimaginative policies' of Central and State Governments which affected them badly. Those attached to the Jail department, Fire service and health services would be exempted from the strike.

A dharna would be staged by the employees near Gandhi thidal on that day.
