93 killed in Pak. rain
ISLAMABAD, JULY 23. The heaviest torrential rain in 100 years in
Pakistan killed at least 93 people besides washing away a village
and lashing major cities today, officials said.
More than 100 people were injured as the torrential rain hit
parts of northwestern Pakistan.
Lightning struck two villages in northwest frontier province and
lashed major cities in the country. Dadar village in Mansehra
district was washed away when lightning struck at 3:30 a.m.
killing 65 people and injuring 100 others. Nine persons are
missing. Officials said 25 people were killed in the mountaneous
Buner area of the same province when lightning hit a village
there.
According to the SP, Islamabad, a child and a woman were killed
there while another child was killed in Rawalpindi. Islamabad
received 620 mm rains in 100 years. Rains destroyed `Kachi
abadis' (Islamabad), where most of the Christians lived.
