Musically yours
Award functions are dreary and drab affairs, devoid of colour and
gaiety. More so if the kudos are meant for academic excellence.
But this one was different. It could have easily been a film
award function. Star, style and spark - everything was in place.
And for good measure there were lilting tunes aplenty.
With music being its middle name, could the sponsor organise the
event any other way? The programme organised by the Tirumala
Music Centre the other day to honour meritorious students of TMC
family was a memorable one. Right from the word go it was music
and more music that dominated the show. The charismatic presence
of heart-throb of yesteryear, Akkineni Nageswara Rao, lent that
extra touch of glamour.
Appropriately titled `Aap aur hum - forever together', the
programme was just music to the ears. Everything, right from the
welcome song to the award presentation ceremony, was accompanied
by music, the pitch rising in tune with the claps. For TMC it was
mixing business with social responsibility. Interestingly, TMC
deals not exactly in music but in electronic goods. But it soon
plans to launch a course in music appreciation so that people can
better understand the nuances.
Not just this. TMC had something for the newly weds too. A
honeymoon holiday offer for the couples married between April-
June. Three nights and four days stay at any one of the four
listed destinations of their choice. ANR shuffled the coupons and
drew lot as the newly weds held their breath. And quite
appropriately a romantic duet followed ``Prema yatralaku ...''
Music, when soft voices die, vibrates in memory. And so was TMC's
musical programme.
