New NSG chief fails to take charge
By Our Special Correspondent
NEW DELHI, JULY 31. The newly-appointed Director-General of the
National Security Guards (NSG), Mr. R. Rajagopalan, a 1965 batch
IPS officer of Tamil Nadu, today failed to take charge.
The outgoing NSG chief, Mr. Nikhil Kumar, who retired after more
than three decades of service, handed over charge to the Border
Security Force (BSF) chief, Mr. Gurbachan Jagat. Home Ministry
sources said Mr. Jagat would hold additional charge as NSG chief
for the time being.
Mr. Rajagopalan, apparently not relieved by the State Government,
was the Director-General of Police, Tamil Nadu, till he was
transferred by the Chief Minister, Ms. J. Jayalalithaa. The
refusal of the State Government to relieve him is being seen here
as a retort to the Centre which had requisitioned the services of
three senior IPS officers of the State for postings in New Delhi.
