T.N. CM silent on PM's desire to resign
By Our Special Correspondent
CHENNAI, JULY 31. The Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, Ms.
Jayalalithaa, today declined to express any definitive opinion on
the Prime Minister, Mr. A.B. Vajpayee's desire to resign.
``Let us wait and watch the situation,'' was her reply when asked
about it at the Secretariat here. Referring to Mr. Vajpayee's
remark that he could not enforce discipline among the NDA
partners, the Chief Minister said that perhaps it might be an
emotional statement by the Prime Minister.
On the alleged involvement of personnel in the Prime Minister's
Office (PMO) in the UTI scam she said she did not have any
information.
She refused to react to the allegation in some newspapers that
she was instrumental in the appointment of Mr. P.S. Subrahmanyam
as the UTI Chief in 1998, when the AIADMK was a constituent of
the Central Government. When a reporter posed the question to
her, the Chief Minister sidestepped it by asking the mediapersons
``whether they had any other questions''.
