Nadapuram rape case: 4 more arrested

By Our Staff Reporter

KOZHIKODE, JULY 31. The Crime Branch today arrested four more accused in the alleged Nadapuram rape case.

The case was that a group of CPI(M) activists had attempted to rape a middle-aged woman, Nafeesa of Theruvamparamba, during the communal unrest in Nadapuram and nearby places early this year. In retaliation, the prime accused in the case, Binu, was murdered by alleged NDF activists. The Special Investigation Team of the CB-CID recently arrested six of the alleged NDF workers involved.

At a press conference, the Crime Branch SP, Mr. Sreejith, said all the accused in the attempted rape case were either CPI(M) supporters or its activists. The police had identified 14 CPI(M) supporters in connection with the case registered under U/S 376 of Cr.PC. Eight of the accused are in the police net and with four more arrests effected today, two more of the accused remain to be held.

The four arrested today are C. Vinodan, K. Pavithran, C. Vinayan and M. Sajeevan.

The murder of Binu was well planned and executed by alleged NDF activists. Though the intention was only to physically harm Binu, he succumbed to his injuries on account of heavy bleeding, the CB CID SP, Mr. Subash Babu, said at a press briefing.

Recently, six NDF activists were arrested by the police in connection with the Binu murder case. Four more involved in the crime have to be taken into custody before a chargesheet can be filed. The exposure of the NDF activists proves that no IUML activist was behind the murder of Binu, Mr. Subash Babu added.
