KSEB for 60 p.c. tariff hike
By Our Special Correspondent
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, JULY 31. The KSEB has indicated its desire to
mobilise an additional revenue of Rs. 800 crores annually through
a tariff hike.
This was stated in a report the KSEB submitted before the Subject
Committee of the State Legislature on Power, which met here
today.
The report, while dwelling on the financial problems of the KSEB,
said the KSEB expected to raise additional revenue to that extent
annually. When the Subject Committee members wanted to know the
source of this expected additional revenue, the official
concerned reportedly clarified that a tariff hike had become
unavoidable.
Some of the Subject Committee members did some quick calculations
at the meeting and asked whether this would not mean a tariff
hike of over 60 per cent.
The LDF MLAs in the committee reportedly disputed the KSEB's
contentions on the size of the total outstanding liabilities of
the organisation.
The proposal comes close on the heels of the testing of the
water, so to say, by the Government through a recent White Paper.
Various categories of industrial consumers were quick to oppose
the move then itself.
