Breast feeding week celebrations from today

By Our Staff Reporter

CHENNAI, JULY 31. The World Breast Feeding Week will be celebrated in hospitals in the city between August 1 and 7, with thrust on this year's global theme, ``Breast Feeding in the information age''.

At the Stanley Medical College, the programme will include a well baby clinic and an exhibition on information relating to the theme. This will be followed by cultural programmes, interaction with members of the public and formation of a human chain on subsequent days. The exhibition will be open throughout the week between 8 a.m. and three p.m.

At the Institute for Obstetrics and Gynaecology, the function will begin with an awareness creation programme. Speakers will deal with the important role that breast feeding has to play in making food security a reality for babies and the argument that it is a complete and natural food for infants during the first six months after birth.

The Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Sri Ramachandra Medical College and Research Institute, has organised a CME programme on adolescent health. The seminar is being organised in association with the National Task Force on Adolescent Care. The objectives are to focus on the different disciplines, reflecting common problems and challenges in the area of adolescent health.
