By Our Staff Reporter
BHUBANESWAR, JULY 31. While many villages are still surrounded by
water in the coastal districts of Orissa, the number of diarrhoea
cases reported from the flood-hit areas have crossed the 27,000
mark with 3,592 fresh cases reported on Tuesday. The number of
deaths due to diarrhoea has since increased to 29.
While the total number of diarrhoea cases increased to 27,048 on
Tuesday, cases of suspected malaria have increased to 11,008.
The deaths due to suspected malaria has increased to nine with
five deaths being reported from the flood-hit districts on
Tuesday.
The number of snake bite cases has increased to 142, and 12
persons have died of snake bites in the flood affected areas.
The number of jaundice cases has increased to 42 and the disease
has claimed one life so far.
Meanwhile, the State Government was today criticised by
Opposition members in the State Assembly for its ``failure'' to
carry out relief and rescue operation effectively in the flood
affected districts.
Several Opposition Members belonging to the Congress also alleged
that the flood situation worsened in many districts due to
failure on the part of the authorities to regulate the water at
the Hirakud reservoir.
