Border talks with China conclude
BEIJING, AUG. 1. India and China today concluded their talks on
the vexed border issue but there was no indication if the two
sides made any progress towards resolving their differences.
The Foreign Secretary, Ms. Chokila Iyer, headed the Indian
delegation at the 13th round of the India-China Joint Working
Group (JWG) on the boundary issue here yesterday.
Today, she met the Chinese Foreign Minister, Mr. Tang Jiaxuan,
today and exchanged views on bilateral relations and
international and regional issues of common interest, the
official Xinhua news agency reported.
Both sides had a frank and friendly exchange of opinion on
bilateral relations, including the border issue, the Chinese
Foreign Ministry spokesman, Mr. Zhu Bangzao, said today.
Mr. Zhu refrained from commenting whether progress was achieved
on the boundary issue.
Asked whether the two sides discussed the proposed visit of the
Chinese Premier, Mr. Zhu Rongji, to India later this year, Mr.
Zhu said consultations were held on maintaining high- level
visits between the two countries.
