PCC chief declares war against 'betrayers'
By Our Special Correspondent
HYDERABAD, AUG. 1. The APCC president, Mr. M. Satyanarayana Rao,
called upon Youth Congress supporters to `confront' senior
leaders who had betrayed the party leading to the loss of
Warangal and Rangareddi Zilla Parishads to the ruling TDP.
Advising them against beating up these `traitors', the PCC chief
said they needed to be taught a fitting lesson because they had
brought humiliation to the party and caused him anguish by their
behaviour.
Mr. Satyanarayana Rao was launching the membership enrolment
drive of the A. P. Youth Congress in Secunderabad on Wednesday as
part of a nationwide campaign from August 1 to 30. The IYC
observer and pradesh returning officer, Mr. Nilesh Deshmukh, and
the APYC chief, Mr. P. Sudhakar Reddy, were also present.
He assured the Youth Congress members of a minimum of 70 per cent
representation in the distribution of party tickets for the
upcoming Gram Panchayat elections and the MCH polls, as and when
they are held. He was making this assurance out of conviction
because it was the youth had contributed to the party's good
performance in the recent Mandal and Zilla Parishad polls.
The PCC chief said he had, in fact, commended the role played in
the polls by the Youth Congress when he called on the AICC
president, Ms. Sonia Gandhi, at New Delhi earlier this week. he
had also apprised her about the sabotage by some senior leaders
during the elections to the Warangal and Rangareddi ZP
chairpersons' posts.
As it would take some time for the Congress high command to
depute an observer and study his report before initiating action
against those who had let down the party, the Youth Congress
cadre must teach these ``double-crossers'' a lesson, he added.
Mr. Sudhakar Reddy, who administered a pledge of loyalty to
partymen, said the Youth Congress had fixed a target of enrolling
10 lakh members in the State. Mr. Deshmukh said the membership
drive in 7.50 lakh polling booths in the country would be
followed by organisational elections. Mr. S. Prabhakar, City
Youth Congress president, welcomed the gathering.
