'Pariyaram college denied recognition'
By Our Staff Reporter
KOCHI, AUG. 1. The Medical Council of India has once again
refused to entertain the plea for granting recognition to the
Pariyaram medical college as the Government has not been able to
``rectify certain deficiencies'' pointed out by the Council,
according to a statement filed today by the State Government
before the Kerala High Court.
In the statement filed in response to a contempt of court
petition, it had been pointed out that the Minister for Health,
Mr. P. Sankaran, met the president of the Council on July 11 and
urged him to consider the Government's plea for granting
recognition to the medical college. The president advised the
Minister to approach the Central Government in this regard. An
amount of Rs. 23.80 crores was needed to ``rectify the
deficiencies'' which included completion of hostel building,
theatre complex etc.
The statement on behalf of the Government was filed by Mr. K.
Ramamoorthy, Secretary, Health and Family Welfare. The State
Government had made repeated requests to the Council for
recognition of the MBBS courses. The Government even sought three
months' time for fulfilling the requirements of the Council
thorough a letter sent on June 1. But, the Council refused to
grant recognition to the college.
