AIADMK, DMK clash
NEW DELHI, AUG 2.The Lok Sabha today witnessed a clash between
the AIADMK and DMK members on the Central Government order for
transfer of three IPS officers posted in Tamil Nadu.
Mr. P. H. Pandian, AIADMK, contended during zero hour that such
transfers could not be effected unilaterally without the consent
of the State Government.
The former Prime Minister, Mr. Chandra Shekhar, said while no one
could question the Centre's right to punish guilty IAS and IPS
officers, it had no authority to transfer them without assigning
reasons and without the consent of the State Government.
DMK and AIADMK members traded charges and counter-charges with
the former getting the support of NDA members.
The BJP member Mr. V.K. Malhotra, said three officers were
involved in the arrest of the former Chief Minister Mr. M.
Karunanidhi, and the two Union Ministers, Mr. Murasoli Maran and
Mr. T.R. Baalu, who had been manhandled.
