Bid on Amarnath pilgrims foiled
JAMMU, AUG 3. Security forces today foiled a major attempt by
militants to target Amarnath pilgrims in Poonch district killing
two Hizb-ul-Mujahideen ultras in a fierce encounter, a Defence
spokesman said here.
The security forces launched an operation on a road stretch
between Poonch town and Mandi and challenged a group of four-
heavily armed militants. When the ultras opened fire from their
automatic weapons, the security forces retaliated. In the
exchange of fire, two militants were killed on the spot while
their associates managed to escape.
Boy killed in firing
A 12-year-old boy was killed and six persons received bullet
injuries when Army personnel opened fire on a group of people in
a procession against the killing of a Hizb-ul-Mujahideen militant
turned violent at Magam, 24 km from Srinagar, officials said.
RDX seized
Meanwhile, the Army seized 103 kg of deadly RDX along with a huge
cache of arms and ammunition, by smashing two underground
militant hideouts and arrested three suspected militants in the
Kashmir Valley, a defence spokesman said here today. The arms
were seized during raids in the border districts of Kupwara and
Baramulla.
